Alessia Martullo on Fitness, Recovery & Building a Wellness Mindset

What does it mean to truly embrace a healthy lifestyle? Is fitness just about working out, or does it go deeper?
In Episode 21 of Connected Conversations, we welcome Alessia Martullo, Founder of Fit Life Coaching, who shares her journey from corporate fitness trainer to wellness entrepreneur. With a focus on personalized coaching, neuromuscular stretching, and holistic health, Alessia is redefining the way people approach fitness, recovery, and overall well-being.
Fitness Beyond the Gym: Breaking Free from Traditional Models
After spending five years at Equinox—where she ranked among the top 20 trainers for three years—Alessia realized that fitness shouldn’t be confined to a gym membership. She founded Fit Life Coaching in 2022, shifting her focus toward training clients in their own homes and providing a more personalized, recovery-focused approach.
"People’s lives don’t revolve around a gym schedule,” Alessia shares. “I wanted to create a system where fitness adapts to you, rather than you having to adapt to fitness."
The Mind-Body Connection: Movement as Therapy
One of the most unique aspects of Alessia’s coaching philosophy is her focus on neuromuscular stretching and nervous system regulation. With two stretching certifications, she emphasizes that movement is not just about strength and endurance—it’s also about recovery, flexibility, and mental well-being.
"Your nervous system controls everything," she explains. "If you’re constantly in a state of stress, your body will hold onto tension. Stretching isn’t just about flexibility—it’s about downregulating the nervous system so you can move better and feel better."
Entrepreneurship & Taking the Leap
Leaving a high-profile corporate gym to start her own business was a bold move, but Alessia knew she wanted to provide something more meaningful and impactful for her clients.
She shares the challenges of launching Fit Life Coaching, from building a client base to redefining what success in the fitness industry looks like.
"Starting a business isn’t just about taking a risk; it’s about believing in your mission," she says. "I wanted to create a space where people feel empowered in their own health journey—where they don’t feel limited by access to a gym or a rigid training schedule."
Cultural Perspectives on Health & Wellness
Born and raised in Italy, Alessia brings a global perspective on health, having witnessed different cultural attitudes toward movement, food, and self-care.
"In many European countries, movement is built into daily life—you walk everywhere, meals are social, and stress management is a priority,” she shares. “In the U.S., fitness often becomes a grind, something we ‘have to do.’ I try to help my clients find joy in movement, rather than seeing it as a chore."
This cultural appreciation extends to her diverse clientele, as she values learning from her clients as much as they learn from her.
Building a Supportive & Diverse Wellness Community
Alessia’s coaching isn’t just about workouts and meal plans—it’s about helping people build confidence, resilience, and a mindset for lifelong wellness. She actively works with clients from different backgrounds, using individualized approaches that respect their unique needs, limitations, and goals.
"I’ve learned so much from the people I train," Alessia says. "Health is personal. What works for one person may not work for another—so my job is to meet people where they are and help them build something sustainable."
A New Way to Think About Fitness & Recovery
Alessia Martullo’s approach to fitness and wellness is a reminder that true health goes beyond exercise—it’s about recovery, mindfulness, and finding what works for you.
Whether you're looking to transform your fitness routine, explore the deeper connections between movement and mental health, or gain insight into the entrepreneurial journey of building a wellness brand, this episode is packed with valuable insights.
