This comprehensive 56-hour medical interpretation course goes well beyond the traditional 40-hour medical health interpreter training program. Added features include detailed instruction in the areas of anatomy, physiology, and procedures, as well as mental health interpreting. This course offers 5.6 CEUs.

The course provides a comprehensive and in-depth overview to interpreters of what it takes to successfully interpret in medical environments through 40 hours of guided coaching and practice in interpretation as well as 16 hours of instruction on interpretation theory, professionalism and ethics, and medical terminology. On the final day of the course, students are presented with tips on how to market themselves and build a resume.

Anatomy and Physiology
Medical Procedures Overview
Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
Medical Terminology
Scenario Analysis
Sight Translation Practice
Consecutive Interpretation Practice
Simultaneous Interpretation Practice


Pre- and post-screening of participants

Medical terminology quizzes
Sight translation, consecutive, and simultaneous interpretation group practice with general terminology

Target Audience:
Working sign language and spoken language interpreters.

Educational Objectives (5.6 CEUs):
1. Learn Anatomy and Medical terminology for the mental health and medical field
2. Apply Consecutive interpretation of students and provide feedback
3. Utilize note-taking skills through real-time practice
4. Learn what companies look for with resumes from interpreters
5. Work through difficult situations that arise during medical interpretation assignments
