Legal Interpreting Program Spring 2020
Ad Astra’s Legal Interpreting Program presents training in the full range of legal settings and the fundamentals of legal processes to help prepare interpreters for legal scenarios. This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of pre-trial and court procedures, the strict professional and ethical standards and responsibilities required of interpreters, and legal terminology.
Our professional development course is intended for bilingual individuals in all languages who seek to develop their interpretation skills in order to become a court interpreter. By focusing on the skills and knowledge essential for legal interpreters as well as the complexities and nuances of the court system, this program also serves to prepare interpreters to pass legal interpretation certification tests.
Ad Astra’s 10-week, 44-hour Legal Interpreting Program covers the following topics:
- Court Procedures Overview
- Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
- Legal Terminology
- Sight Translation Lab Practice
- Consecutive Interpretation Lab Practice
- Simultaneous Interpretation Lab Practice
Along with acquiring the knowledge and understanding necessary to successfully interpret in legal settings and mastering legal terminology, course participants also will have the opportunity to network with other language industry professionals.
